What it does
Complaints about businesses, including AI companies. The AG investigates where complaints suggest patterns of consumer harm or systematic violations of consumer protection law.
Honest assessment
Worth more than its bureaucratic appearance because of jurisdiction: California's AG has direct reach over OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Meta, and California has become the lead US AI regulator via SB 53. A well-documented complaint alleging a pattern lands in the office with both the authority and the demonstrated appetite to act. Still: no individual remedy, no guaranteed response.
How to file
Online web form at oag.ca.gov, or download, print and mail the form. Forms available in English, Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese. Provide your contact details, the business's details, the product/service, transaction dates, names of representatives, your desired resolution, and evidence of prior contact attempts with the business.
