EU AI Act Whistleblower Tool (AI Office)

What it does

Reports of harmful practices or other AI Act violations, from 'individuals who are professionally connected to providers of general-purpose AI (GPAI) models or of AI systems' within the AI Office's enforcement scope. Supporting documents may be attached.

Honest assessment

Strong on mechanics — genuine anonymity with two-way follow-up is rare and is exactly what the Right to Warn signatories asked for. Legally reinforced by AI Act Article 87, which applies the EU Whistleblower Directive (EU) 2019/1937 to AI Act infringement reporting from 2 August 2026, giving confidentiality and anti-retaliation protection. No outcome data yet; the AI Office's enforcement capacity is unproven.

Anonymous submission via the hosted portal, available in all EU languages. You receive a secure inbox so you can track progress and answer follow-up questions while remaining anonymous. The AI Office states it maintains a high standard of confidentiality with documented internal procedures to maximise protection of reporter identity.

The report enters AI Office handling; the whistleblower monitors progress and receives communications through the secure inbox.

What it accepts

Matters outside the AI Office's enforcement remit. Note the professional-connection framing: this is an insider channel, not a general public complaint route (use the complaints tool for that).
