EU AI Act complaints tool (AI Office)

What it does

Complaints from individuals and organisations about alleged AI Act infringements falling within the exclusive competence of the AI Office, under Article 85. All official EU languages. Supporting detail and a stated country of incident are required.

Honest assessment

This is the single most usable EU route for an unaffiliated person, because it solves the 'which national authority?' problem: you file centrally and the AI Office refers onward with your consent. It is brand new, so there is no outcome track record. The non-anonymity requirement is a real constraint for anyone with an employment relationship to the target — use the whistleblower tool instead in that case.

What happens after

The AI Office treats complaints confidentially and will notify you if your complaint falls outside its jurisdiction. With your prior consent it may refer the complaint on to national market surveillance authorities or fundamental rights enforcement bodies.

What it does not accept

Infringements outside the AI Act's scope; breaches of other EU or national law; matters under Articles 53–55 (GPAI model obligations from downstream providers, which have a separate channel); and matters covered by Article 89(2). Submissions are NOT anonymous — complainant identification is required.
