(2) Petition the House: a petition can be lodged by any person, goes to the Petitions Committee, and is then routinely referred to the relevant subject committee such as this one. No word limit. You may write in English or in Māori. Submissions can be released by the committee at any time, which makes them public on the Parliament website — this can take a few months. You may ask to make an oral submission in person, by phone or by video conference; remote appearance is explicitly offered to people outside Wellington and to disabled submitters. If the meeting is livestreamed your submission will appear publicly. Advisers read and analyse all submissions and summarise them for the committee in a departmental report, which is also published.
