The non-statutory expert advisory council established in 2023 that produced Japan's interim AI policy positions and laid the groundwork for the AI Act. Now largely superseded.

Not usable and, more importantly, no longer the right target. If someone directs you to the AI戦略会議 as Japan's AI control tower, that advice is out of date — go to the 人工知能戦略本部 instead.

Travaux en cours

Largely dormant. The most recent meeting recorded on the Cabinet Office page is the 14th session on 2 June 2025, with the previous one on 4 February 2025. Its function has been absorbed by the statutory AI Strategy Headquarters and its expert panel (専門調査会). Included here specifically so it is not mistaken for the live body — a lot of secondary commentary still points at it.
